T-Ball:

T-ball is our way of introducing the sport to young children.  As they develop they transition to the rec leagues for baseball and softball that are already established and doing well.

Swimming:

Our swim team, the Torpedoes, is for swimmers ages 5-18 that have completed Shark Level swimming skills.  With the addition of our new swim coach, Alina Shaw, (see swim page on our website) the swimmers have sharpened their skills and increased their competivitness level.  Swimming is another sport that can transition to high school swim teams that also use our pool for practices.

Golf:

GOLF TOURNAMENT A HUGE SUCCESS:

The YMCA held it’s first Golf Tournament on March 3, 2012 to benefit and help grow Junior Golf in Southeast Georgia.  Money raised will go directly to grow Junior Golf .

There will be four Hook a Kid on Golf Tee Level Clinics each week in June for children ages 8-16.  These clinics are designed to introduce Golf to beginners.  The children will receive a set of clubs, a shirt, and a hat a part of their program registration fee.  Jill Sloan is in charge of sports and can be reached for detailed information on this Summer’s Golf Program at 912-285-8660 or jsloan@ymcawaycross.org

The mission of Hook A Kid on Golf is to provide communities with a comprehensive youth golf program that eliminates all the obstacles that may discourage youngsters from learning and continuing to play golf while instilling in them an understanding of golf’s rules, etiquette and history. The program provides the community with the tools necessary to provide an  organized youth golf program.

In addition, there will be two Green Level Clinics held for children that completed the Tee Level Clinics last year.

and others, please click on the facebook link here.

Additional money generated from this Golf Tournament will go toward the purchase of golf equipment that the YMCA will use with it’s afterschool  program.  Additional equipment will be purchased for regional schools so that PE teachers can introduce golf to all students during PE Class.   Children will receive an overview of the game of golf, how it is played, basic skills and instruction, and an introduction into the positive values and life skills associated with the game through  the First Tee’s Core Values.

Music:

The YMCA has been offering music for over a year, so contact our music director Anna Pinder for information on openings in music lessons annalpinder@gmail.com.  We hope this program continues to grow as we continue to expand and serve children in our area.
